Genius: the new unified POS platform
Formerly known as Terminal Plus, Global Payments has launched Genius, a unified POS platform designed to centralize collection, management and reporting, while adapting to different sectors and countries.
The launch was made official in spring 2025, with initial availability for foodservice in the USA and Canada, followed by a staggered retail rollout.
Why is Genius a game-changer?
Genius is not just another application: it’s a unified POS architecture that enables Global Payments to rapidly launch variations by market and vertical (foodservice, retail, campus, large sites), while respecting local requirements.
Objective: offer the same experience, the same transactional visibility and the same performance standards, whether you have a restaurant in Montreal or a network of boutiques across the country.
The restaurant version (Genius for Restaurants) is available for launch to businesses in Canada. The retail version is currently under development.
Who is Genius, the simplified platform, for?
Genius brings together the essential elements of a modern POS: cash register, kitchen management, back-office, payments, kiosks, take-away/drive-thru, digital signage, and advanced configuration capabilities to suit both large groups and ambitious SMEs.
Retail trade
Genuis provides fast checkout, connected inventory and unified store/e-commerce reporting. The idea is to avoid surprises, harmonize prices/promotions and accelerate online sales.
Restaurant
Genius brings service-oriented workflows: rapid order-taking, payment at the table, better managed queues, synchronized cooking and instant visibility of sales by time, product and channel.
Large companies
If you have multiple points of collection and compliance and process issues, Genius ticks the boxes for a single, long-term platform.
We're here to help you succeed!
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What's the difference between a point-of-sale system and a payment terminal?
Point-of-sale (POS) system
A POS system is a collection of software and hardware used to manage business transactions, including the sale of products or services.
It typically includes retail software for item entry, price calculation, transaction processing and inventory management.
A POS may also include features such as customer management, sales tracking, reporting and integration with other systems such as accounting.Payment terminal or Interac machine
A payment terminal is an electronic device used to process credit or debit card payments.
It consists of a card reader and a keypad allowing customers to enter their PIN or sign to authorize the transaction.
Payment terminals can be fixed or portable. They can support different types of payment card, including smart cards and contactless cards.
Payment terminals are often used as a complement to a POS system, but they can also be used as stand-alones in certain cases, such as at trade fairs or temporary events.I have several points of sale. Can I use Genius?
The Genius solution has been designed to offer centralized retail management, even with multiple points of sale. With Genius, you optimize your inventories and make every product accessible to your customers, in-store, online or at any branch.
Can I use my existing equipment?
Genius adapts to your reality. Card readers, scanners, cash drawers, printers or iPads: our software is compatible with most POS equipment on the market.
What operating system does Genius run on?
The Genius solution is compatible with iOS and Android devices, offering a fluid, intuitive experience on large touch screens.
